Next week the renovation work will start at my place. I have already made a rough idea about the new design. There are many things that need to be changed and most important amongst them are the fittings for water and drainage system at different points in the house.

I talked to various plumbers to gather information about plumbing and various equipments that should be used. Plumbing is the skilled trade of working with tubes, pipes and other plumbing fixtures for drinking water systems and the drainage of the waste. A plumber is a person who is expert with installation and repair of different plumbing equipments. Plumbing works should be taken great care of in the home due to the need of clean water and proper channel for waste.

Pipes made up of copper, brass, plastic can be used. Toxic material like lead is avoided. Hogh pressure pumps are used. Vents and drains are made up of plastic, steel and cast iron.

The straight section of the plumbing system constitute of pipes and tubes. A pipe is typically formed via casting or welding, where as a tube is made through extrusion. Pipe normally has thicker walls and may be threaded or welded, where tubing is thinner-walled.

There are various other different plumbing equipments that are uses in buildings, huge factories etc. These are elbows, trees, unions, valves. These are used in a complicated setup.

Traps, drains, vents, Septic systems, Rainwater, surface, and subsurface water drainage, and Fuel gas piping, potable supply of hot and cold water are the various categories of the plumbing system.

One should not compromise with the quality of the plumbing equipments to be used as these can create problems in the home. New technologies are being used by the plumbers these days such as hidden cameras are used to detect the leaks and other defects.

Now I have enough information about the different plumbing methods and equipments that should be used. Plumbers had complete knowledge about their field and helped in understanding the procedure and various things that should be kept in mind. I have listed down the equipments that have to be bought for different places like taps and showers for the bathroom, water heaters etc. They have also given me a rough cost estimate.

by Florin Ciobanu

The very first thing that you are going to want to take into consideration is the pitch of your shed’s roof because this will help to determine if you will be comfortable working on it.

As soon as you choose to do the work yourself you are going to need to remember to keep your personal safety at the top of your mind at all times. While getting your storage shed roof shingled is an important job, you do not want to sacrifice your personal safety to get the job done. That being said, it is very possible to put shingles on your storage shed roof just as long as you have the proper tools and a good safety plan in place.

You will need the following materials in order to properly put shingles on your shed; a hammer, staples, roofing felt, barbed roofing nails, staple gun hammer, utility or trimming knife, straightedge ruler, ridge cap shingles, and asphalt shingles.

Because you do not want to go over your budget and waste your time and purchase more materials then you are going to need. You are going to want to figure out just exactly the total area of your roof. You will then have an excellent idea as to just about the exact number of shingles that you are going to need to complete your job. After that has been figured out you can figure out what type, style, color and texture of shingle that you want to get.

So know when you are finally ready to begin your shingling project you are going to want to begin by moving all of your supplies out to the shed so you do not have to do a lot of running back and forth looks for things.

If your project involves removing and replacing old shingles you are going to want to strip off any damaged materials so that you can check and see if there has been any damage to the wooden roof below. If all of the plywood is still properly nailed down you are in very good shape. If you are doing this you will want to use heavy felt paper.

Take note that you should install the first course of shingles upside down so that the tabs are pointing up. Cut the first shingle 6 inches using a utility knife and straightedge. The bottom should overhang the drip edge by 3/8 of an inch. Attach the shingles using roofing nails. For the remaining part of the row, use a full shingle.

While you continue to place your shingles on the roof of your storage shed set them so that the row above the row you are working on is slightly offset. You can create the illusion of overhang by continuing to use this pattern. Once you are done putting all of the shingles on each side of the shed you then attached the roof top shingles from side to side.

Now that you have all the singles properly attached to your storage shed room you then should then cut off all parts of the shingles that are creating an overhang on the sides of your storage shed. Then all you need to do is the needed cleaning and additional trimming.

Trim off any excess part of the shingles from the sides of the roof. You may also use constructive adhesive to reinforce shingles along the edges and prevent them from popping out. Upon reaching your roof’s peak, attach the ridge cap shingles down the middle from side to side of the roof. Trim off any excess parts, and then clean up.

If you are well read on the basics of how to properly shingle a storage shed roof, you are going to be able to do a quality job. This way you will end up with solid waterproof barrier that will last a long time and do an excellent job protecting whatever you are storing in your shed.

One the most cosmopolitan cities you can find in entire America is the city of Boston. If you want to live and work in a city, it is indeed the right place for it. All modern facilities that you can ask for in a big metro are provided by the city. Roads, trains and airports for general public are available giving the city excellent connectivity.

Boston was the place where I spent my entire childhood. In our neighborhood there was a community school where I studied. My mother decided to enroll me to that school since she was teaching in the same school. She somehow wanted that I never go away from her and always be near to her.

Once I finished my schooling, I decide to go to college to pursue my further studies. I wanted to study plumbing because since my childhood I was captivated with pipes and tubes. I even used to fix small plumbing problems myself that we had to face occasionally in our kitchen.

The training institute was located ten miles away from my home, where I had enrolled for a plumbing course. To take my class in the training institute, I used to travel in the train in the morning and evening.

The tools and equipments used in plumbing included Elbow, Street elbow, Tee, Cross, Cap, Plug, Nipple, Closet flange, Clean-outs, Trap primers, Combo-Tee, Sanitary Tee, Double Sanitary Tee Sanitary Cross, and Wye. I learned about all these tools and equipments in the training institute.

Various areas where plumbing techniques can be used are potable cold and hot water supply, Traps, drains, and vents, Septic systems, Rainwater, surface, and subsurface water drainage, and Fuel gas piping.

The training was for one year time period and course was completed by me successfully. I started working as an apprentice in a local plumbing company and learnt all the skills of the trade along with a group of experienced plumbers. No training institute in the world can teach me what they taught me there.

Now after all these years of working and learning, I have become an accomplished plumber and skilled enough to work independently. So without wasting anymore time, I opened my own plumbing company offering plumbing services and solutions to the local residents of my neighborhood. It is a tough job, but I enjoy it thoroughly.

Composting is really just a way of giving back to the earth or mother nature as it were what it has given you. There is a cycle that things go through in order to grow. Making sure that the soil is healthy is the beginning of a good garden.

A compost program is good for the environment because it cuts down on the amount of waste that is sent off to the landfill. It is interesting to watch things that were once considered refuse to be recycled and put to good use.

Compost has many other functions besides just being good fertilizer for the earth. It also acts as a soil conditioner, a mulching agent Soil that has the proper amount of compost retains water much better and that is very beneficial for the plants.

Composting is a very old strategy and is practiced all over the globe. It is used on a large scale for farms but backyard gardeners can benefit from the effects also.

The every day materials that you gather together from your home and parts of your yard will be converted into a black substance, somewhat fragrant, and crumbly. This will become the compost.

The materials in soil bacteria and fungi can survive and multiply as they break down. The bacteria is the key to a good compost. The bacteria will act as a converter for all the other materials so they need to be in a proper environment.

To begin a compost program gather as much of the green and dry elements as you can from around your garden. Collect grass clippings and green weeds, they have a lot of sugar elements and protein and will decompose rapidly.

Leaves should be added to the greens when they are decomposing. This type of material takes a long time to break down as they contain very little nitrogen.

You do not need to be a expert to start a compost program. All you really need is a love of nature and a desire for knowledge.

The hobby that is gardening , has a lot of benefits. You will find nearly all the same benefits would greenhouse gardening as you do with normal outdoor gardening, with a few minor differences.

It is always nice to be able to cultivate plants and a lot of people realize the importance and significance of being able to connect with nature in this manner.

If you’re just getting started in greenhouse gardening, you can find out a lot of really helpful information from your local plants suppliers.

Reasons For Greenhouse Gardening

Gardening in a greenhouse is good for a variety of reasons. A few of the reasons why someone would want to use a greenhouse are that they would like to be able to grow warm weather plants in a cold climate, as well as having a place to keep your seed stock for the next season, and as a place to let their feelings developed so that they can be safe before they are planted in the soil. Another really great thing that you can do with one of these greenhouses is grow your vegetables throughout the winter.

It also grow all of your ornamental plants and flowers in a greenhouse, as it is not solely for vegetables. As storage for parent plants for the next season, greenhouses are great because they keep the plants from too much exposure to strong winds, rain and other elements. It also provides seedlings with the necessary shelter that they require so that they can make it through the growing process without being exposed to the elements.

You also may want to take a greenhouse gardening because it allows you to have a constant supply of plants for all seasons, as well as allowing you to be able to cultivate different variety of plants that you might be wanting to grow. Greenhouse gardening allows the individual to keep an eye on the plants without any cause for alarm over the strong elements that may beat down on the greenhouse.

Being able to control the climate in a greenhouse makes the situation perfect for growing plants that are sensitive to the environment that you live in. Not to mention the overall positive effect that greenhouse gardening has on people’s stress levels. Not only can gardening help you to relax and take your mind off of your problems, it can also give you a nice workout.

In my humble opinion, just being able to eat and grow all of my favorite vegetables throughout the wintertime is more than enough reason to use my greenhouse. This past time or hobby is a productive one from which we can learn a lot from. Because of people’s desire for organic foods, and healthy eating, greenhouse gardening is quickly developing into a favorite pastime for many many people.

It is no secret that the price of gasoline has climbed to almost intolerable levels. This has caused financial hardship to many families who have to commute to and from work every day. Cars have become a luxury in many places and in a lot of major world cities from New York to Calcutta, commuters are becoming more innovative in the way they save on the high gas prices. One of the ways they are doing this is to purchase scooters.

There are many different types of scooters. There are the foot-powered which are preferred by teenagers and children for playing, then there are the electric-powered which are modern and require no gasoline. Then there are the gas-powered scooters which have gained in popularity.

Scooter have been around since the 1920s. They first appeared in the Far East then they took up residence in the West where the technology evolved to produce even better models. Today, it is not uncommon to see in many cities, thousands of day workers riding to and from using scooters. This has saved tremendously.

Gas scooters are especially preferred today because they do away with the necessity of expensive gasoline. The technology behind gas scooters has evolved in the last 10 years. A gas tank is mounted on the base of the scooter and the gas is pumped into an combustion chamber which burns the gas thereby releasing the pressure that causes the engine motion. Gas scooters can mount speeds of up to 100 miles an hour.

Gas scooters, just like the rest of the scooters have their inherent advantages. One of them as we mentioned is the fuel efficiency. People are looking for ways saving on gasoline. This is because of the high prices that are prevalent in almost every major world city.

Gas scooters are also cute. That is why other than their fuel efficiency, which definitely attracts many because of the state of the world economy, scooters are still a hot selling item among the younger generation. In the US, people mostly buy scooters for recreational purposes. During good weather such as summer, many people get on their scooters and use them to commute for short to medium distances. Picnics are also places where it is easy to see gas scooters.

Gas scooters also continue to attract many because they are affordable. In places like the US, most people can afford a car. But in third world nations and other emerging nations, this is not the case. Many workers are faced with long commutes and no reliable transportation. The public transportation is crowded and sometimes unsafe. Scooters are definitely one great way of resolving this situation. They are far less pricey as compared to cars and are therefore well within the reach of many medium income workers.

In places plagued by long traffic jams, gas scooters are also ideal because one can easily manuever. There is no longer any need to wait behind a long stream of cars. One can easily manuever through traffic and get to their destination faster.

Almost all low voltage garden lighting systems consist of three basic elements: a mains powered low voltage (typically 12 volts) transformer; a cable that runs through the areas requiring lights; and the light fittings themselves.

First though it is vital to select which type of lighting (traditional incandescent bulbs or LEDs) and to gauge the rating of the transformer necessary to run the lights (which depends on how bright they are and how many are required).

We shall examine the two systems (LED and conventional) more closely in a bit, but for immediate purposes it is only necessary to know that both use the same underlying ideas.

Calculating the size of transformer required is simply a matter of counting up the wattages for all the actual lights (so, 3 x 10 watt deck lights plus 2 x 20 watt standard lanterns comes to 70 watts for example) and tells you what rating of transformer you need to purchase.

The transformer input is connected to a mains outlet and must therefore be placed inside. The transformer output is then connected to the cable which then leads outdoors.

In addition to the load created by the light fittings, the cable also places extra load on the transformer which you ought to account for when gauging transformer size. Normally the cable packaging is clear on this subject and you should find that longer cables impose higher loads and that beyond a stated length are no longer viable.

You can easily tell whether your cable is getting too long because the lights appear dimmer, most noticeably at the furthest point from the transformer. A simple solution is to loop the cable back (if necessary connect an additional length) to a point near to the start, but ensure you maintain polarity. The cable contains two separate strands of wire and you must not cross connect them – there is almost always a mark of some kind running along the plastic coating on one of the strands.

Once the cable is laid out and connected, simply attach individual low voltage garden lights by cutting and reconnecting the cable to incorporate the short cable length running to the light.

As mentioned already, both traditional incandescent and LED garden lights are widely available these days, bringing the added confusion of deciding which to buy and how to mix the 2 types.

LED lights use considerably less power and do not generate any heat. They also produce much crisper, sharper light compared to incandescent lamps, which can be used to good effect or can look rather harsh depending on the effects you’re after.

In general you cannot attach LED light fittings to a normal low voltage garden system, and the reverse also applies. In the first case, the LED light will likely fail within weeks and in the second, the LED transformer (commonly called an LED driver) will quickly self-destruct.

There are some exceptions to this and some LED lights can indeed be connected to a traditional low voltage lighting system, but these will state this clearly on the box. But in general, to incorporate both incandescent and LED low voltage garden lights you should install two cables with one wired up to a standard 12v transformer and the other to a constant voltage 12 volt LED driver, then wire in each type of light fitting to the correct cable.

There are significant advantages to running both kinds of garden lighting. LED light has a distinct quality that makes possible a whole new range of lighting effects and, when combined, both kinds of lighting system can be deployed so as to enhance or contrast each other, creating lighting effects beyond the capabilities of either one alone.

Most modern garden lighting uses a low voltage system comprised of 3 main components: a cable that distributes power to the areas to be lit; a mains to 12 volt transformer; the actual light fittings.

To gauge the correct size of transformer, count up the total number of watts for all your various light fittings (i.e. if you have 2 x 20w spots and 3 x 10w rock lights thats a total of 70 watts) and ensure you purchase a transformer that is rated to handle that load.

Obviously, the transformer itself should be located indoors since it will be plugged into the mains. The cable should then be connected and fed to the outside.

The cable itself applies a load to the system, in addition to the load created by the light fittings, which you should allow for when calculating the correct transformer size. This is typically stated on the packaging and increases in line with the cable length, which imposes an effective limit on the length of cable.

As already noted above, LED and regular incandescent garden light system are now both readily available, which can tend to confuse things when deciding which to purchase or how best to incorporate both types.

LED lights use considerably less power and do not generate any heat. They also produce much crisper, sharper light compared to incandescent lamps, which can be used to good effect or can look rather harsh depending on the effects you’re after.

As a rule you can’t connect LED light fixtures to a standard low voltage garden lighting system, and vice versa. Either your LED light(s) will quickly degrade and die within a few weeks, or in the reverse case your LED driver (as LED transformers are called) will equally rapidly fail.

There are many benefits in running both types of garden lights; LED lighting has particular properties that enhance the range of possible lighting effects, and when used in tandem both types of lighting can be made to either contrast with or complement each other and so create effects that would simply not be achievable with just one or the other.

Many people wander why reducing our water usage is such an important issue. Particularly as England is notorious for it’s rainy climate. However, most people will be surprised to learn that some parts of the UK are experiencing water shortages. The key part to remember is that people should not start restricting their enjoyment of water. Due to the fact that we use domestic appliances on a regular basis, we do not realise how much water we end up wasting in the process. However, there are steps that can be taken to not waste water.

The average person in the UK uses around 150 litres of water everyday. The majority of this is used up in domestic chores around the house such as washing, cooking, drinking and watering the garden. We are using 50% more water than 25 years ago due to the technological advancements in domestic appliances around the house. We should think about our future and what steps can be taken to reduce water usage for long term benefits.

Steps you can take to save water on a regular basis

Brushing your teeth – Many people leave the tap running while they are brushing their teeth. If you are one of those people you are wasting 6 litres of water per minute. You will save a lot of water if you turn the tap off whilst brushing and rinse at the end with a mug of water

Flush the toilet for items that can be disposed off elsewhere – Flushing the toilet uses up a large amount of water accounting for about a third of household water usage. Sometimes it is more convenient to flush down items such as cotton wool or face wipes, however this is wasting a huge amount of water for items that can be disposed off in a rubbish bin. Some reports have indicated that if we stopped flushing down items that can be easily thrown away in a rubbish bin, we would save about 27 millions litres of water a week

Have a shower instead of a bath – You will save more water if you shower instead of having a bath. This is due to the fact that a bath uses around 80 litres of water in comparison to showers which use around 30 litres of water. However, you should note that power showers use up much more water

You can save water in the garden – Using a watering can rather than a hose will be very useful in saving water. Another useful point to note is that rain water is better for plants than tap water. It would be advisable for you to buy a water butt to collect the rain water for the garden

Buying water-efficient appliances – Most of the domestic appliances nowadays have taken into account the importance of energy saving. Therefore if you are about to invest in a new appliance for the home, such as a dishwasher or a washing machine, you should look for one with a energy label. It would be advisable for you to look for a washing machine that uses less than 50 litres per wash. Also, doing a full-load rather than a half-load when using the washing machine or dishwasher will save on energy

A furnace is a device designed to heat a home or other building. A gas furnace is one that burns gaseous fuel such as natural gas or propane. If your home has a gas furnace, you may be curious about how it actually works. Understanding its parts and how they work together can help you ensure that your unit is operating efficiently, and may even help you perform small repairs yourself rather than spending big bucks on calling in the pros.

The Heating Cycle Begins The process starts with the thermostat that is inside your home. The thermostat senses the temperature inside the room. When the thermostat senses that the temperature dips below the point at which you have it set, it kicks the system into gear. On more modern units, this means that an inducer fan then pulls air through the unit until adequate combustion airflow is established. After an appropriate level of airflow has been reached, the gas valve opens and allows gas to pass through. The gas then flows through the burners and is lit up by either a spark or the heat from an ignitor. If the unit in your home is an older one, the unit is likely to have a small flame that burns continuously, otherwise known as a standing pilot, to light the gas.

Your Home Gets Heat After the furnace senses that the thermostat has triggered the flame and that it is properly lit, the actual spark (or ignitor) is turned off. If your unit is older and contains a standing pilot, it will not be turned off. At this point, the gas will typically burn for at least two minutes before the blower starts to disperse heat throughout your home. The reason for this is to give the air an adequate period of time to warm up and so that cold air wont be pushed through the vents into the rooms in your house at the start. After either the preset time (roughly two minutes) or pre-established temperature is reached, the blowers motor is turned on and it blows air over the heat exchanger. At the heat exchanger, the air is heated and then blown through the duct system into the various rooms via vents in the floor, walls or ceiling.

The Heat Goes Off You may have noticed that just as the heat in your home turns on when a certain temperature is reached, it also turns off after the rooms are warm enough. This is also because of the way the thermostat works with your gas furnace. Basically, the thermostat again senses the temperature in the room. When the room warms up to the temperature set by you at the thermostat, the gas valve is switched off, stopping the flow of gas. After the gas is turned off, the blower motor will still run for a few minutes. The reason for this is to allow the heat exchanger to cool off a bit. How long the blower motor runs after the gas supply is shut off depends on either a timer or a temperature switch.

Basic Maintenance Whether you have a gas furnace or an oil furnace, some routine maintenance will be necessary in order keep everything running smoothly and to extend the life of your unit. Now that you understand the basics of how a gas furnace works, you can probably handle routine maintenance yourself, with a little more research and some online tutorials. If you feel more comfortable trusting the experts, you can invest in a maintenance contract, and for as little as $100 a year, a dealer will take care of it for you.
